“Silua Scura” … the dark forest! Silva Escura, a place steeped in history, its name whispering secrets of a bygone era. It stands here today as a testament to a captivating past. Nestled amidst the rolling hills of Maia, Silva Escura traces its origins back to the 10th century. It was here, in this very spot, that an intriguing story unfolded. A story of a humble farmer, his cart laden with wine, and a miraculous encounter. As legend has it, the farmer was making his way to the bustling marketplace in Porto when disaster struck. His cart, overloaded and rickety, lurched on the uneven cobblestones, the barrels of wine threatening to spill. The farmer, desperate and devout, cried out to Saint Anthony, his patron saint. The earth trembled, a gentle breeze swept over the hill, and the cart miraculously righted itself, the barrels safe and sound. In gratitude, the farmer built a small shrine on the very spot where the miracle occurred. This story is a tale whispered through the ages, a testament to the unwavering faith of the people of Silva Escura and their belief in the power of Saint Anthony. And it is this legend that continues to infuse this place with a mystical charm and a sense of hope that endures to this day.
