Amidst the grandeur of Visconti Square stands the Palazzo Podestarile, a building whispering tales of Rho’s history. The Palazzo Podestarile wasn’t always here. Its story begins in 1928, when King Vittorio Emanuele unified Rho with Mazzo Milanese, Terrazzano, Lucernate, and the Passirana hamlet of Lainate. This unification created a need for a new town hall, a headquarters for this newly expanded municipality. And so, between 1929 and 1931, the Palazzo Podestarile rose, a testament to this pivotal moment in Rho’s history. The Palazzo Podestarile, also known as Palazzo Comunale, was built in a mere 18 months. Commissioned by Podestà Cav. Eraldo Bonecchi, the building’s design echoes the grandeur of Visconti and Sforza castles. Look closely at the Lombard brickwork, adorned with mullioned windows and graffiti decorations. The 30-meter high crenellated tower stands as a proud symbol of the city’s past. The Palazzo Podestarile isn’t just a building.
