There, nestled amidst the modern bustle of San Antonio, lies Shavano Park. It’s a town seemingly untouched by time, where history whispers from the rustling leaves and the gently flowing Olmos Creek. Shavano Park wasn’t always a tranquil haven. In the 1880s, it bustled with the energy of a frontier town. The San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway cut through its heart. Farmers brought their bounty – corn, cotton, hay, and livestock – to be shipped across the state. Stagecoaches rumbled through daily, connecting Shavano Park to San Antonio and Boerne. Imagine those dusty travelers, seeking respite in the town’s saloon or trading news at the general store. Shavano Park had its own post office then, established in 1881, its first postmaster a man named A. De Zavala. The turn of the century brought change. The railroad that once breathed life into the town moved on, taking its prosperity elsewhere. The post office closed its doors in 1903, its stories becoming local legend. But Shavano Park didn’t fade away. A new chapter began in 1947 when the land was purchased by the Rogers family. Their vision transformed the former Stowers Ranch into a residential haven, a place where the echoes of the past harmonize with the comforts of the present. Today, as you stroll through the tree-lined streets of Shavano Park, remember its journey. It’s a story of transformation, resilience, and the enduring spirit of a Texas town.
