The project started in 1992. It wasn’t just about connecting islands. It was about creating industrial hubs. Jusuf Habibie the then president oversaw this enormous undertaking. Locals affectionately call it the Habibie Bridge. A tribute to his vision.
The bridges aren’t all the same. Each one is unique. Tengku Fisabilillah is the longest a cable-stayed marvel. Nara Singa is a cantilever bridge. Ali Haji is a girder bridge.
