Why was Masjid Saidina Othman Ibnu Affan built? Let’s journey back to 1984. Construction began on this important religious site. It was completed in 1987.
The Masjid Saidina Othman Ibnu Affan replaced Surau Jumaat Hidayatul Islamiah. The old prayer house could no longer accommodate the growing congregation. This was especially true for Friday prayers and Hari Raya prayers. The new masjid addressed this critical need.
Masjid Saidina Othman Ibnu Affan officially opened in October 1987. It was officially inaugurated on May 31, 1988. The eighth Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Iskandar of Johor, presided over the ceremony. The mosque is named after Uthman Bin Affan. He was the third Caliph or successor of Muhammad.
Located on Jalan Budiman in Bandar Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur, Masjid Saidina Othman Ibnu Affan stands on land owned by Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan. Nearly RM 4.5 million was allocated for its construction. Operational costs are covered by donations. These donations come from Friday collections and donation boxes at the entrance. MAIWP and JAWI also contribute funds each year.
The administration of Masjid Saidina Othman Ibnu Affan falls under Pejabat Pusat Zon 5, Bahagian Pengurusan Kariah, JAWI. A Pegawai Hal Ehwal Islam S41 leads the administration. Two Pembantu Hal Ehwal Islam S17 assist as permanent government officials. An eleven-member committee further supports the Masjid’s management.
This Masjid boasts impressive facilities. Its prayer hall and large veranda accommodate up to 3,500 people. There is an administration office for community affairs. A kitchen and dining hall cater to various events. The Masjid Saidina Othman Ibnu Affan even has a Qurban/Aqiqah management site. A fully equipped funeral management room is available. The air-conditioned lecture hall seats 300. It hosts courses, seminars, Islamic events, and wedding receptions. Ample parking ensures convenience for visitors to Masjid Saidina Othman Ibnu Affan.
Other facilities include a meeting room. A van is available for transporting deceased and logistical support. Quarters are provided for Masjid officials. Educational institutions are nearby. These include Sekolah Menengah Agama Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan. Also there is Sekolah Rendah Agama Othmaniah and Tadika Othmaniah.
Masjid Saidina Othman Ibnu Affan serves a diverse community. The majority of the congregation is Malay. Chinese and Indian worshippers also attend. The Masjid stands as a testament to unity. It is a place of worship for all.
