Founded in 1963 the First Elizabeth Baptist Church stands tall in Houston. It’s a testament to faith and community. This wasn’t always the case. The church’s journey began at 4205 Galesburg Street. Reverend J E Coleman a visionary leader established this sacred space.

He poured his heart and soul into building this congregation. He laid the foundation for the spiritual growth of countless individuals. His legacy continues to inspire. Sadly Reverend Coleman passed away in 1999. The church mourned his loss but his spirit remained.

The First Elizabeth Baptist Church family elected Reverend W D Yancy Sr as their new pastor. He stepped into the role on Father’s Day 1999. Pastor Yancy’s leadership brought new energy and direction. He focused on teaching God’s word. He emphasized the importance of following Jesus’s teachings. He guided the church toward even greater heights.

The church moved to its current location at 5054 Mallow Street. It serves the communities of Houston Sunnyside Gardens Southeast Houston and Sunnyside. The First Elizabeth Baptist Church offers a blend of traditional and contemporary worship. It’s a place where people from diverse backgrounds come together.

This church isn’t just about Sunday services. It hosts Wednesday Bible studies. There’s a vibrant children’s ministry. Young adults and men’s and women’s ministries flourish.
