You are standing before the Haselwimmerkapelle, a small chapel at the northern edge of the Haselwimmer estate. This unassuming structure, nestled beside the Pulvermacherweg, holds a story of faith and community resilience. The original Haselwimmerkapelle, built long ago, was demolished during a renovation of the nearby Pulvermachergütl, the former home of Haselwimmer’s inn. The chapel’s heart – a venerated image of Mary – was salvaged by Josef Leitner, a skilled carpenter, and carefully preserved.

The chapel’s spirit, however, longed to be reborn. In a meeting of the Lieferinger Prangerschützen, a shooting club, Hannes Göschl proposed the idea of rebuilding the Haselwimmerkapelle and holding traditional May devotions there. His dream, however, was not simply to re-create the past; the new chapel was to embody the spirit of renewal and hope.

The year 1997 saw the chapel rise again, thanks to the tireless efforts of the Prangerschützen and local residents, led by Leonhard Kistner. The chapel’s dedication to Mary, the heart of the Catholic faith, was reaffirmed. Its walls bear witness to the past, with the names and dates of the original and current chapels etched into wooden beams under the gable.

The Haselwimmerkapelle remains a beacon of faith today. Just like the faithful of the past, local residents gather at its gates to pray and to celebrate Mary’s presence. It is a testament to the enduring spirit of this place, a symbol of the enduring power of faith and love.
