“Leaping à la Trubetsky” meant doing something swiftly brightly and cheerfully. This expression described Moscow sculptors in the early 20th century. They admired Paul and his sculptural approach. In St. Petersburg, Trubetsky became acquainted with the Swedish Elin Sundström. She became his wife.
The artist captured his beloved spouse with their only son in the sculpture “Mat’ i Ditya”. The boy died in 1908 at two years old. But the master continued to create images of Elin with her son.
This sculptural portrait of Trubetsky has special lyricism. The faces are carefully crafted. The artist dynamically sculpts the folds of women’s clothing. This impressionistic work can be attributed to a specific genre. French critics called it a “portrait statuette”. It is a portrait statue.
Since 2012, the “Mat’ i Ditya” fountain project has been underway. Vladimir Lubenko created it. It is located in the open-air museum “Saint-Petersburg Olymp of Culture”. The fountain’s sculptural group is made by Vladimir Lubenko’s skilled masters. Special equipment is needed for the fountain to function.
