Have you ever wondered what life was like for a successful businesswoman at the turn of the 20th century? Right here, in the Nauener Vorstadt, you can see it all come to life: the Villa Baumgart. This grand residence, with its striking Neo-Baroque facade, was home to Marie Baumgart, a pioneer in her own right. She was a successful owner of a factory that produced fittings, brassware, and beer pressing equipment. Marie Baumgart was even awarded the title of Imperial Supplier by Kaiser Wilhelm II. It was in 1903, under the watchful eye of master mason Carl Partik, that she transformed an existing building dating back to 1765 into this exquisite home. Stepping inside, you’ll be transported by its grandeur: over 900 square meters of lavish living spaces. And this is just the start! The Villa Baumgart was born from an impressive 6,000 square meters of garden land. It was once a glorious sight: a sweeping green paradise under the watchful gaze of the villa. Imagine, lush green spaces, pathways winding through vibrant blossoms, and the scent of blooming flowers filling the air. Now, this grand property is a historical monument, protected for future generations. Even its past is filled with intriguing details: Villa Baumgart was also a haven for the Hitler Youth during Nazi times, with its sprawling park transformed into a ‘Mothers’ Park.’ In the post-war era, it became the headquarters for the East German Red Cross. Despite its changing roles, though, some remnants of the villa’s original splendor linger. Inside, the beauty of the Art Nouveau era lingers: glass accents, intricately painted wall and ceiling panels, elegant fireplaces, and grand wooden staircases. Although time has taken its toll, a glimpse of this ensemble’s past grandeur still flickers, resonating through the walls. It is here, in this grand villa, that Marie Baumgart, a true testament to the spirit of her time, penned her own chapter of history. Today, Villa Baumgart stands as a reminder of a bygone era, whispering tales of ambition, style, and resilience.
