Within these walls whispers of royalty echo. Sukhothai Palace stands before you a testament to history and elegance. This is no ordinary building. It’s where kings once lived. It’s a place steeped in the rich tapestry of Thai history.

Sukhothai Palace in Bangkok wasn’t always a royal residence. Queen Saovabha commissioned its construction in 1918. It was a wedding gift for her son Prince Prajadhipok. He later became King Rama VII. The name Sukhothai Palace was bestowed by King Vajiravudh. It blends Western architecture with the artistry of Thai design.

The palace boasts three main buildings the Yai Building Mai Building and Nam Building. They’re linked by a beautiful walkway. Intricate wood carvings and Thai eaves adorn this walkway. Queen Saovabha often used the palace for rest. Its location on the Samsen Canal offered a tranquil retreat.

King Prajadhipok and his queen initially lived at Dusit Palace. They later returned to Sukhothai Palace. Following the 1932 revolution the royal couple went to England. King Prajadhipok abdicated the throne in 1935 never to return. The palace then became Crown Property Bureau property. It was used as a government office for years.

In 1968 Queen Rambai Barni returned to Thailand. The palace was returned to her. She resided there until her death in 1984. Afterwards Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn now King Rama X lived at Sukhothai Palace. He later moved to Amphorn Sathan Residential Hall.

Today Sukhothai Palace is home to princesses. Princess Bajrakitiyabha and Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana live there. It serves as a reminder of Thailand’s royal lineage. A captivating glimpse into a world of regal elegance and historical significance. The legacy of Sukhothai Palace continues to resonate through its walls.
