The abandoned 2020–21 Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Cup led to an unexpected opportunity. The Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Football Association awarded Greifswalder FC a spot in the 2021–22 DFB-Pokal. Hansa Rostock had already qualified. Greifswalder FC faced Bundesliga team FC Augsburg in the first round but lost 4–2.

The club’s journey continued with promotion to the Regionalliga Nordost in 2022. In the 2023-24 season, Greifswalder FC finished second in the Regionalliga Nordost.

Greifswalder FC plays its home matches at Volksstadion Greifswald. The stadium has a capacity of 8,000 seats. This stadium is not just a place to watch football. It is a cauldron of local pride.
