From cornerstone to spire, Église Très-Saint-Sacrement stands as a testament to faith and community. It’s more than just a building. It’s a vessel carrying stories of Lachine’s evolving landscape. Église Très-Saint-Sacrement officially became a parish on June 17, 1910. Its territory was carved from Saints-Anges-Gardiens parish. The church building itself is younger than the parish. Its construction took place between 1950 and 1952. The Conseil du patrimoine religieux du Québec has recognized its architectural significance with a “cote supérieure” rating. Église Très-Saint-Sacrement is located in the Lachine borough of Montreal. This area has seen much change over the years. The village of Lachine was founded in 1848 and gained city status in 1872. It then expanded in 1912 by annexing the town of Summerlea. Further expansions occurred in 1958 with part of Côte de Liesse parish and in 2000 with the city of Saint-Pierre. Finally, in 2002, the city of Lachine itself became part of Montreal. So, as you stand before Église Très-Saint-Sacrement, remember that you’re standing on ground steeped in history. The very stones of this church have witnessed the growth and transformation of a community. They hold within them the echoes of Lachine’s journey from a small village to a part of a vibrant metropolis. Église Très-Saint-Sacrement serves as a beautiful reminder of this past.
