Picture the year 1853. Friedrich August Stichweh a dyer opened his doors in Hanover. His was not just any cleaning establishment. It was a Färberei a Druckerei and a French laundry. This was the humble beginning of Stichweh Reinigung a name synonymous with quality and tradition in Hanover.

Stichweh Reinigung wasn’t confined to a single location. In 1866 its first branch opened. This continued until 1943 a testament to its growing success. Around 1860 Stichweh introduced dry cleaning. This was a revolutionary innovation for the time. It cemented the company’s position as a leader in textile care.

In 1891 the operation moved to Limmer a village near Hanover. It remains there today a historical landmark. Wilhelm Stichweh the founder’s grandson took the reins in 1923. Under his leadership the company expanded rapidly. By 1928 it boasted nearly 300 employees.

World War II brought devastation. The bombing of Hanover severely damaged the facility. Yet even this couldn’t break the spirit of Stichweh Reinigung. It was rebuilt after 1945 stronger than ever.

The post-war years brought restructuring and expansion. Stichweh Reinigung’s reach spread throughout Northern Germany. The company introduced new services like large-scale laundry services. It also distanced itself from dyeing in 1967. By 1968 it owned 138 sales outlets including 98 express cleaning shops.

The 1980s witnessed a decentralization. A franchise system was implemented. This provided greater independence for shop owners. Stichweh Reinigung continues to thrive. Today it offers carpet and leather cleaning services. This is in addition to its traditional laundry services.
