Bang Khae means “country of the hummingbird tree.” The district was established on March 6, 1998, when they combined Phasi Charoen Sakha 1 District with Lak Song Sub-district from Nong Khaem District. Bang Khae District gets its name from the hummingbird trees that were once plentiful in the area. Today, the district is home to four sub-districts: Bang Khae, Bang Khae Nuea, Bang Phai, and Lak Song. Though it’s less common to see these trees now, the name still holds onto the history of the District. And while it may not be the same place it was in the old days, it has grown tremendously.
