Stained glass shimmering, fused glass glowing, blown glass art beckoning. Welcome to Lost Acorn, Salt Lake City’s unique community art space. Lost Acorn isn’t just a gallery. It’s a haven for artists and art lovers alike.
Tucked away on 6th Avenue and L Street, Lost Acorn is a vibrant hub. Mitchell Harned and Parker Thompson are the owners. They have dedicated themselves to fostering creativity. For four years, this gallery has thrived. It offers a space for artists to create and showcase their work.
Step inside Lost Acorn and discover two distinct areas. The front is a cozy gallery. It displays diverse art. The back houses a working area for artists. Here, creativity comes to life. Mitchell Harned shares his glass-making passion through classes. He teaches the art of stained glass, fused glass, and blown glass. These classes are a main source of income.
Lost Acorn is more than just classes. It’s a venue for various events. Comedy shows, art exhibits, and charity events have all graced its walls. “Don’t Tell Utah” and “Afro Magik, a Juneteenth Exhibition” are examples. Even tea-tasting and tea blend-making events happen here. Lost Acorn supports small businesses with their “Moon Market”. This market features local artisans and their crafts. It’s truly an eclectic spot.
Though live music is no longer permitted due to noise complaints, Lost Acorn’s artistic spirit remains strong. The owners now host “The Homies”. It’s a monthly art showcase. Local artists display their talents across various mediums. Upcycled clothing, wall murals, and street art all find a home here.
Harned and Thompson want Lost Acorn to be a place where artists feel validated. They understand the challenges artists face, especially in tough times. They believe art is most crucial during these times. They hope “The Homies” helps artists make sales and feel recognized.
Lost Acorn also hosts group exhibitions. “What It Feels Like” depicts the lives of women and LGBTQ+ individuals. It showcases both challenges and celebrations.
