A church born from a desire for something new. That’s the essence of Advent Lutheran Church in Los Angeles. Advent Lutheran Church emerged from a group of parents within Cedarburg’s German-speaking Lutheran community. They yearned for their American children to experience worship in English. Almost 120 years ago, they took a leap of faith. They organized a new congregation. Their first service took place on the first Sunday of Advent, roughly in December. This spirit of renewal and adaptation is deeply woven into Advent Lutheran Church’s identity. Every year, the church celebrates its founding by welcoming new members. This act symbolizes a continuous cycle of embracing fresh perspectives and serving the community’s evolving needs. Advent Lutheran Church continually strives to create relevant ministries. These ministries reach out to neighbors, both near and far. They offer support to those in need and provide a welcoming space for individuals seeking meaningful ways to live their faith. The church’s commitment to updating its understanding of faith has been present since its inception. This forward-thinking approach continues to shape its present and future. It ensures that Advent Lutheran Church remains a vibrant and relevant force in the lives of its members and the wider community.
