Imagine needing a warm meal and finding a community. That’s part of the story of Adventgemeinde Berlin-Zehlendorf. This church isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a place of service.
Adventgemeinde Berlin-Zehlendorf is a Seventh-day Adventist church. You will find it at Gartenstrasse 23 in Berlin-Zehlendorf. The church offers more than just religious services. It extends a helping hand to those in need.
For over 20 years, Adventgemeinde Berlin-Zehlendorf has run a soup kitchen. It started in 2014. From November to March every Tuesday and Thursday, the church provides a warm lunch. People pay only 50 cents. Hartz IV recipients, the homeless, low-wage earners, and pensioners benefit.
Initially, there were doubts about the need in Zehlendorf. Zehlendorf seemed affluent. The Paulusgemeinde had opened a similar service a year earlier. Their experience showed that poverty exists everywhere. The need was definitely there.
Where does the food come from? The Adventist Hospital Waldfriede provides it. They cook the meals. A local baker donates bread and rolls. It is unsold goods from the previous day.
Around 30 to 35 people come to Adventgemeinde Berlin-Zehlendorf for each meal. It’s more than just food for many. Guests appreciate the chance to talk or get advice. Pastors and volunteers from the Zehlendorf, Wilmersdorf, and Waldfriede Adventist churches are available.
Besides the soup kitchen, Adventgemeinde Berlin-Zehlendorf offers other activities. They include Bible study and senior meetings. Services are held every Saturday at 10:00 AM. The services are in German. Children’s care is provided during the service.
