Established in 1973, Geumbit Elementary School stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of education in Seoul’s Suseo district. Geumbit Elementary, whose name translates to “Golden Spades,” evokes a sense of digging for knowledge and uncovering hidden treasures. The school’s motto, though unwritten, seems to be etched in the very bricks of the building: “Nurturing tomorrow’s leaders, one student at a time.” Geumbit Elementary originally opened under a different name, Geumad11 Public Elementary School, on November 2, 1971. Its official inauguration as Geumbit Elementary took place on September 1, 1973. That same day, the school was assigned to the jurisdiction of the Icheon District Office of Education. A mere seven months later, the first 20 graduating classes proudly marked the school’s initial impact on the community. Geumbit Elementary has seen a steady flow of graduating classes ever since, contributing to the vibrant fabric of Suseo and Seoul. In 1996, the school underwent a name change, becoming the Geumbit Elementary School we know today. From its humble beginnings to its present-day stature, Geumbit Elementary has continually evolved, mirroring the dynamic city it serves. Each graduating class, like a carefully unearthed gem, adds to the rich mosaic of Seoul’s history.
