Tucked away in the Virginia Highland neighborhood, Orme Park offers a serene escape. Today, we will uncover the story of this charming 6.6-acre park.

Orme Park sits along Clear Creek. It is a green space loved by locals. But do you know about its 2011 transformation?

A $203,000 renovation breathed new life into Orme Park. The “Friends of Orme Park,” the Virginia-Highland Conservation League, the City of Atlanta, and a Park Pride grant funded it. This collaboration created a more accessible and inviting space for everyone.

Imagine this: A new entry plaza welcomes you. A stairway and gently sloping sidewalks offer wheelchair access. No more struggling to enter the park from Brookridge Drive.

The children’s playground also got a makeover. It was relocated, and a granite seating wall was added. Parents can relax while watching their children play. A walkway now connects the two entrances on Brookridge Drive. Before, there was only a dirt path.

But the improvements didn’t stop there. Another Park Pride grant in 2012 enabled tree recompense. A rain garden and additional plantings enhanced the park’s beauty. A new masonry sign marked the entrance.

Orme Park has a playground designed for kids ages 2 to 12. Multiple slides, swings, and climbing structures provide endless fun. The ground is covered in wood chips. Nearby trees offer plenty of shade.

Notice the seating options. Benches, a rock wall, and picnic tables dot the area. Donated toys add a unique touch. Push toys, ride-on toys, tricycles, and trucks are constantly changing.

Clear Creek flows through the heart of Orme Park. There’s also a short wooded trail for walking or running. Please note that there are no bathroom and no water fountains in Orme Park.

Orme Park’s charm extends beyond its features. The park is named after Aquilla J. Orme. He was an official with the Atlanta Electric Light and Trolley Company. His contribution helped shape the area.

Orme Park stands as a testament to community collaboration. It is a place where nature, recreation, and neighborhood spirit converge. As you explore Orme Park, remember the dedication that transformed it into the treasure it is today.
