Have you heard the story of a school that moved and transformed? That’s the story of Meragang Sixth Form Centre. This college stands in Kampong Meragang in Brunei Darussalam. It is known as PTEM.
Meragang Sixth Form Centre began in 2009. But its roots go back further. It started as Pusat Tingkatan Enam Berakas. That school was in Lambak Kiri. In 2009, the school relocated to this new campus. The new campus was in Kampong Meragang. So Pusat Tingkatan Enam Berakas became Meragang Sixth Form Centre.
PTEM is a government institution. The Brunei Ministry of Education runs it. The college sits on the Tutong-Muara Highway. It’s about 24 km from Bandar Seri Begawan.
What does Meragang Sixth Form Centre offer? It prepares students for Cambridge International Examinations. Students take AS-level exams after their first year. These exams are in May or June. They take A-level exams in October or November of their second year.
Meragang Sixth Form Centre has a motto. It is “Beriltizam, Berdaya Maju, Berdaya Saing.” This means “Committed, Progressive, Competitive”. The college aims to instill these values in its students.
About 850 students attend Meragang Sixth Form Centre. The teaching faculty includes 110 staff. These teachers come from Brunei and other countries.
The college uses English and Malay as languages of instruction. It also offers Hebrew, Chinese and Tamil.
The school divides students into houses. These houses are Indera Pahlawan, Indera Putra, Indera Mahkota and Indera Wijaya.
The former Pusat Tingkatan Enam Berakas had many facilities. These included classrooms and science labs. There were also computer labs and art studios. A language lab and lecture room supported learning. The campus covered 6 hectares. Its construction cost over 12 million Brunei Dollars.
One notable alumni is Lee Ying Shi. She is a national wushu athlete. She demonstrates the diverse talents nurtured here at Meragang Sixth Form Centre.
The PTE Berakas Alumni still exists. It has joined the PTE Meragang Alumni. This connects former students from both campuses.
Meragang Sixth Form Centre continues to grow. It provides quality education. It prepares students for their future. This college is a vital part of Brunei’s education system.
