Wow What a journey through time awaits us at the Kardinal-Bertram-Schule.

This isn’t just any school. It’s a place steeped in history a testament to faith and community in the heart of Hanover. The Kardinal-Bertram-Schule boasts a rich past. It all began in 1873 with the founding of a wool washing and combing mill in Döhren. Many of the workers hailed from the Upper Eichsfeld region. They were predominantly Catholic.

This shared faith sparked something remarkable. In 1883 a Catholic men’s group formed. They dedicated themselves to building a Catholic school. They even established the Bonifatiusverein to raise funds. Their dedication paid off. On August 14 1884 Pastor Schreiber of St Clemens church received official permission to establish a private Catholic school. Just two months later on October 14 1884 the school opened its doors.

A significant milestone came in 1886 when the school acquired land on Hildesheimer Strasse. For decades the Kardinal-Bertram-Schule thrived there. Later it shared a building with the Heinrich-Wilhelm-Olbers-Schule. But the Kardinal-Bertram-Schule was not to be confined to shared spaces. In 2014 it moved to its current location at Loccumer Strasse 46. A fitting home for this institution that has served Hanover for almost 140 years.

Think of the countless children who have walked these halls. The teachers who have shaped young minds. The generations of families connected by this institution. The Kardinal-Bertram-Schule is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a living legacy a vibrant community a testament to the enduring power of faith and education. It’s a place where history unfolds every day.

So as you stand before the Kardinal-Bertram-Schule remember its incredible story. Remember the dreams and dedication of those who came before you. Their legacy continues here. In this very place.
