Doesn’t the name Orhun evoke images of ancient Turkic steppes? Here in Ankara’s Etimesgut district lies Orhun Mahallesi. It is a place that embodies modern Turkish life.
Orhun Mahallesi wasn’t always here. It was officially established on March 4th 2018. This happened after a decision by the Etimesgut Municipality. The decision was approved by the local governor’s office. This led to the creation of Atayurt, Orhun, and Turkuaz Mahalleleri. These new districts emerged from reshaped boundaries. The original areas were Şehitali, Aşağıyurtçu, Yukarıyurtçu and Ballıkuyumcu.
The formation of Orhun Mahallesi also increased Etimesgut’s total number of districts to 36. The growing population in the Eskişehir Yolu area of Etimesgut necessitated this change.
As of 2023, Orhun Mahallesi is home to 493 residents. This is according to the Address Based Population Registration System. The population has seen steady increases. In 2018, it was 357. By 2022, it had grown to 437. The 2023 figure shows a 13% increase from the previous year.
Orhun Mahallesi is managed by a muhtar. They are supported by a council of elders. This system is mandated by the Municipality Law. It ensures local governance.
Though relatively new, Orhun Mahallesi continues to evolve. It mirrors Ankara’s dynamic growth. It also highlights the ongoing administrative efforts. These efforts aim to accommodate the city’s expanding population. As Ankara develops, Orhun Mahallesi represents a modern chapter in the city’s story.
