Jenna Bliss’s art. Have you heard of it? Her captivating “Blue Light In The Livingroom” graced the Ulrik Gallery in 2025. Right here, in this very gallery. The Ulrik Gallery on Canal Street has held so many fascinating exhibitions. It’s more than just a space. It’s a portal through time, showcasing a vibrant tapestry of artistic expression. From the thought-provoking “Analyze Lovers” by Les Levine in 2024 to the evocative “Nuit De Cellophane” by Hélène Fauquet earlier that year, Ulrik Gallery has always pushed boundaries. Remember Bettina? That enigmatic artist whose work was almost lost to obscurity? Her “New York: 1965–86” exhibition in 2023 at Ulrik Gallery was a revelation. It was a resurrection of sorts, bringing her photographs and sculptures back from the brink of oblivion. The Ulrik Gallery showcased her “Phenomenological New York” series, a captivating exploration of the city’s warped streetscapes and architectural surfaces. Bettina, a lifelong New Yorker, remained a mystery, her work echoing the visual languages of Op Art, conceptualism, and minimalism. Yet, she seemed to exist outside the established art circles. She lived and worked at the Chelsea Hotel for fifty years, her apartment overflowing with art she rarely shared. Ulrik Gallery offered a rare glimpse into this intensely private world. The gallery co-owner, Alex Fleming, remarked on Bettina’s isolation amidst the bustling art scene of the Chelsea. She was surrounded by renowned artists yet remained apart, her artistic dialogue a solitary pursuit. Even a devastating studio fire, which destroyed decades of her work and her beloved cat, couldn’t extinguish her creative spirit. This tragedy, in fact, spurred a period of “hyperproduction,” as Fleming put it, further solidifying the importance of the Ulrik Gallery exhibition. In 2023, Georgia Sagri’s “UNEGO” graced the walls of Ulrik Gallery. Sagri believes “Painting is touch,” and her works are indeed a tactile and emotional experience. From Sagri’s evocative paintings to Bettina’s rediscovered masterpieces, the Ulrik Gallery continues to showcase the diverse and captivating world of contemporary art.
