Spring High School

A chilling incident once gripped Spring High School. On September 4, 2013, a tragic stabbing occurred, leaving a 17-year-old student dead and three others injured. Spring High School, located in unincorporated Harris County, Texas, has a history that stretches back to 1969. Situated along Interstate 45, the school was intentionally placed so that passing drivers could see it. Spring High School is part of the Spring Independent School District and serves grades 9 through 12. The school’s mascot is the lion, and its colors are black, green, and white. Over the years, Spring High School has seen its student population fluctuate. In 2013, it had around 3,500 students, one of the largest high schools in Harris County. More recently, in the 2023-2024 school year, enrollment was approximately 2,760 students. Spring High School has also undergone several changes and renovations. Westfield High School, originally Spring High School South, opened in 1976 and eventually became its own institution. The Richard C. Crain Fine Arts Building, named after a prominent music director, opened in 2000. A renovation project in the late 1990s brought new facilities and athletic fields. The school even boasted banners visible from I-45 highlighting its achievements. Did you know that Spring High School was named a 1992-93 National Blue Ribbon School? This prestigious award recognizes schools for their academic excellence. Today, Spring High School continues to evolve. It is currently a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, aiming to provide a challenging international education. This program will offer students a unique opportunity to engage with a diverse and globally focused curriculum.
