Did you know that Omkareshwar Temple is not just one temple but possibly two halves of the same ancient Linga? Welcome to Omkareshwar Mahadev Mandir. It stands as one of Borivali’s oldest Shiva temples. This temple is near the Borivali railway station.

The Omkareshwar Mahadev Mandir offers spiritual solace to countless devotees. People come here seeking blessings and peace. The spiritual trust provides special darshan bookings. They also arrange abhishek pooja, accommodation and prasad for devotees.

Inside the Omkareshwar Temple you can find a large clock. This clock is special because it chants the Omkara sound. The temple also has dwadash jyotirlinga in a single place. Many believe Lord Shiva himself created the original Linga. It was then divided into two parts, Omkareshwar and Mamleshwar.

The temple’s history is rich with legends. One story tells of Mount Vindhya’s envy of Mount Meru. Vindhya prayed to Lord Shiva seeking greater splendor. Shiva granted the boon but with a condition. Vindhya’s growth should not hinder devotees. However, Vindhya forgot this condition. It grew so large that it hid the sun and moon. Distressed devotees sought help from Saint Agasthya. The saint tricked Vindhya to stop growing further. The Jyotirlingas near Vindhya became known as Omkareshwar and Mamleshwar.

Another tale speaks of King Mandhata. He and his sons meditated intensely for Lord Shiva. Pleased with their devotion, Shiva appeared as a Jyotirlinga. Thus, the mountain was named Mandhata in the king’s honor. Yet another story recounts a war between Gods and Demons. The Demons won so the Gods prayed to Shiva. He appeared at this spot as Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga. He rose from the ground and defeated the demons.

This temple stands as a testament to faith and architectural brilliance. Omkareshwar Mandir is built in stone. It showcases an extravagant style. The temple is not just a place of worship. It is a destination for instilling awe and faith.

The Omkareshwar Mahadev Mandir is easily accessible. It is located opposite National Park in Borivali East. The temple is open until 9:00 pm.

Remember the grand clock chanting Omkara. Think about the legends of kings, mountains and divine interventions. As you leave Omkareshwar Temple carry with you the echoes of devotion. Preserve the spiritual energy of this ancient shrine.
