Gazing upon the Estufa Grande, one might initially mistake it for simply a beautiful structure. But this building holds a secret. It was once a thriving greenhouse nestled within the expansive Vista Alegre Gardens in Carabanchel, Madrid. The Estufa Grande, meaning “large greenhouse,” served its original purpose until a recent transformation breathed new life into its walls. Now, the Estufa Grande stands proudly as an exhibition space, showcasing a rotating array of artistic and cultural displays. Currently, the “Vistas. Paisajes urbanos de la Comunidad de Madrid” exhibition graces its interior. This captivating exhibition, running until October 22nd, features the work of 14 photographers. Their lenses capture the essence of Madrid’s urban landscapes. From iconic landmarks like Gran Vía and Chamartín Station to the serene beauty of Pradera de San Isidro, the exhibition offers a diverse perspective on the city. The Estufa Grande also extends its view beyond Madrid’s borders, showcasing urban scenes from surrounding municipalities like Alcalá de Henares, Alcorcón, and Coslada. This free exhibition invites visitors to explore the urban heart of Madrid and its neighboring communities through the eyes of talented artists. The Estufa Grande’s opening hours vary seasonally. From June to August, the doors are open from 9 am to 9 pm. In September, closing time shifts to 8 pm, and in October, visitors can explore until 6 pm. So, step inside the Estufa Grande and discover the beauty of Madrid captured within its historic walls.
