The Iglesia San Andrés Apóstol stands as a testament to centuries of faith and devotion. Its history is a rich tapestry woven with threads of perseverance and resilience. The earliest documented mention of a church, possibly this very site, dates back to May 7, 1245. A concord was established between the Master of Calatrava, Fernando Ordoñez, and the Archbishop of Toledo, Rodrigo Jiménez de Rada. This agreement addressed the situation of the churches before this accord. The document states, “Let them be as they were at the time this composition was made.” This phrase offers a tantalizing glimpse into the church’s early existence. It suggests a structure already standing in 1245, steeped in history, its origins shrouded in mystery. Dedicated to Saint Andrew the Apostle, the Iglesia San Andrés Apóstol celebrates his feast day on November 30th. Andrew, one of the twelve apostles and brother of Simon Peter, was martyred on a cross shaped like an “X.” He is the patron saint of both Russia and Scotland. Inside the church, a central image of Saint Andrew occupies the main altar, a focal point for prayer and reverence.
