The Landkreis Bamberg a sprawling district in Bavaria. It surrounds but doesn’t include the city of Bamberg. Its history is deeply intertwined with Bamberg’s.

Established in 1862 as two separate districts Bamberg-West and Bamberg-East. They merged in 1929. The Landkreis Bamberg we know today solidified its boundaries in 1972. That’s when it annexed parts of Erlangen-Hochstadt.
