Can a school have a school within its grounds? This might sound odd, but it’s true for Takatsuki Iwate Elementary School. It once had a branch school, the Kawaiho Branch, that existed within its vast school grounds. Takatsuki Iwate Elementary School, located in the charming city of Takatsuki, has a history as rich and sprawling as its schoolyard. Founded in 1876, the school initially started as a combined elementary and middle school. Over the years, this institution, now known as Takatsuki Iwate Elementary School, has seen numerous changes, including mergers, separations, and name changes. In the 1970s, the school faced an unusual problem: it became too popular! As new homes were built, the school population boomed. To accommodate the growing number of students, two new schools, Takatsuki City Hiyoshigaoka Elementary School and Takatsuki City Ogadai Elementary School, were established from sections of Takatsuki Iwate Elementary. Interestingly, Takatsuki Iwate Elementary was one of the first schools in the city to implement a two-semester system in 2005. This innovative approach to education showcases the school’s commitment to providing a high-quality learning environment. Today, Takatsuki Iwate Elementary School stands as a testament to the enduring power of education. It has served generations of students and continues to shape young minds to this day.
