The war memorial is made of black gabbro-diabase. It is set on a matching base. To the right and left are two sculpted urns. They sit on small pedestals faced with artificial stone.
The Plekhanov Russian University of Economics has a rich history. It began with Russian manufacturers and entrepreneurs in the 20th century. It became Russia’s first economics university. It laid the foundation for the Russian national school of economic education.
Since its start, the university has played a vital role in Russia. This included challenging times. These times were wars, revolutions, and social and economic shocks. Over 180,000 specialists have graduated. They are leading scientists and government members. Some are well-known politicians and economists.
During the Great Patriotic War, many from the MINH went to the front. MINH is now the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics. Hundreds of students and staff fought. They fought for their country’s freedom. Many gave their lives.
In the summer of 1941, the 17th Division was stationed here. For four years, more than a hundred Plekhanov students died for our Motherland.
